```The Phantom Of The Opera Albany Theatre reviews
Elf was lacking
"An exceptional movie was the basis for Elf, and it had big shoes to fill. Sadly, it was clear that they could strive for better writing. There were plenty of good lines, in fact, a lot were good. However, there was absolutely no need for foul language in a play, especially considering the number of children in attendance. The remarks of a 'special hug' were unnecessary and put questionable thoughts in my kids' heads. I don't want this entire review to focus on what could be improved, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention a few more things. Why was it Macy's vs Gimbles? Why not incorporate the two key songs sang in the movie, Baby It's Cold Outside & Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, both public domain songs? The latter could have been a great moment for audience participation, creating the illusion of Christmas cheer and causing Santa's sleigh to fly. My family has a lot of experience with stage plays, both on and off Broadway. We were all disappointed with the overall musical. My seven-year-old even questioned if they had seen the movie, which speaks volumes. I understand the production is working with a smaller budget, but there are ways to make it look more polished. Despite our disappointment, we will continue to support the theater and look forward to the next show. I hope these points can help improve the show."
